Amusement Park Accident in New Jersey
At the annual Deerfield Township Harvest Festival in New Jersey this year a young 10 year old girl was thrown from one of the festival amusement rides. The ride itself is described as rotating the riders in a horizontal circle. The seriously injured girl was airlifted to a nearby hospital where she was sadly pronounced deceased. Why she was ejected from the ride is still under investigation.
Of course most festival, carnival and amusement park rides go off without a hitch every day across America. Still, this tragic story of the death of one of our local youths once again brings to light the inherent risks involved in such rides. Whether or not this fatal accident was caused by negligence or not, it reminds us that mechanical failure, improper operation, riders who don’t follow instructions, and the inherent nature of such rides and are the leading causes of injuries and fatalities related to amusement parks rides (from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission).
