New York City Tour Bus Injuries

Bus2

Each year, tens of thousands of people enjoy a bus tour of New York City. Popular tours include A Slice of Brooklyn bus tours, The New York Beer and Brewery Tour, and TopView Sightseeing. Unfortunately, tour buses, like all commercial motor vehicles, get in their fair share of accidents. If you have been injured in a bus accident, you should consider meeting with a personal injury lawyer to discuss your options.

Horrific New York City Crashes

One of the most horrific tour bus accidents in New York history occurred in 2011, when a bus leaving the Mohegan Sun casino on its way to Chinatown in Manhattan flipped over on Interstate 95. As the bus slid along the road, it struck a pole, which tore off the roof and badly injured 20 people. According to the L.A. Times, at least 14 of those injured died.

More recently, in 2017, a tour bus slammed into an MTA bus in Queens, killing the driver and two other people. According to Fox News, the driver of the Dahlia tour bus plowed into the city bus as it was attempting to make a left-hand turn in Flushing, Queens. The tour bus then crashed into a Kennedy Fried Chicken restaurant. As reported by the media, the Dahlia tour company had received numerous online complaints for drivers who did not obey traffic laws.

Another 13 people were injured in 2017 when a GO New York Tour double-decker bus slammed into a tree in Central Park. According to a report in the New York Daily News, the tour bus swerved to avoid hitting another vehicle on one of New York’s congested streets.

Fighting for Compensation

Injured tourists can not only suffer devastating injuries, but they can miss work as they try to recover. Even relatively “minor” injuries are anything but insignificant. Concussions, broken bones, and lacerations can take months to heal, all the while you lose out on the ability to go to work and provide for your family.

Fortunately, help is available. In New York, you can sue the tour bus company or whoever was at fault for the accident for financial compensation. Our clients have received monetary damages for medical care, rehabilitation, doctor’s visits, and lost wages. If their injuries are slow to heal, our clients have received compensation for future medical expenses and lost earning capacity.

The key to the lawsuit will be identifying the correct party to sue. At the Law Offices of David J. Hernandez & Associates, we will carefully review the facts surrounding the motor vehicle accident:

  • We can interview witnesses who saw the accident to identify the cause
  • We can obtain and study the police report to check if it identifies the party at fault
  • We can visit the scene of the accident
  • We can check surveillance video from local businesses or from the bus itself to identify the person responsible for the crash
